Welcome to the spring edition of "The Responder".  This issue features a message from CEO/Fire Chief Ed Wilkerson, Help Wanted - Fire Corps Volunteers, Firefighters in Action, MVFD hires two Battalion Chiefs, some very important pool safety information, CPR and fire extinguisher training classes, snake awareness, upcoming events, and more.  Spring 2014 Edition

Mountain Vista Fire District units responded at approximately 6:27pm to a motor home fire in the 11000 block of N. Camino Central. Twelve MVFD firefighters and two MVFD chief officers, assisted by one Rural Metro battalion chief and five additional Rural Metro firefighters arrived on scene at approximately 6:38pm and the fire was extinguished shortly after. The quick response prevented the fire from extending to the single family residence just 20’ away. The motor home was not occupied. There were no injuries to the residents or firefighters. 

The fire resulted in a total loss of the motor home and the fire is currently under investigation.

Mountain Vista Fire District has hired two new Administrative Battalion Chiefs. The Battalion Chiefs will play key roles in the coming months and beyond as the District moves forward in their shift from the vendor staffing relationship to a fully operational model that will occur on July 1, 2014. The new members were officially “Pinned”, by MVFD CEO/Fire Chief Ed Wilkerson and their family members, in a badging ceremony on Monday March 17, 2014. Chief Wilkerson, in remarks to the many family, friends and co-workers in attendance stated that “it is a pleasure to welcome to the District these two highly qualified fire service professionals who are ready to lead and mentor our workforce as well as serve our community today and into the future”.

Friday, March 14, 2014. Mountain Vista Fire District units responded to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of W. Morning View Drive. Fifteen firefighters arrived on scene at 18:43 and the fire was extinguished at 18:54. The fire was contained to the bedroom in the single family residence. There were 5 occupants in the home that were alerted by the smoke alarms and evacuated. There were no injuries to the residents or firefighters.                       

The extent of the damage has not yet been determined. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Command was terminated at 19:55.
